Thirteen emerging artists from SAIC’s Advanced Fiber and Material Studies class employ a variety of mediums and processes to address ideas of space and habit. Customary textile processes such as knitting, weaving, printing and embroidery are prevalent in these artists’ exploration of what it means to inhabit or create a space while addressing individual conceptual concerns. Works ranging from large scale floor installations to intimate artist books are among the venues used to expand upon these traditional processes. Dr. Buzzards Savannah Band

I came up on this band maybe a year or two ago, after I had an uncontrollable urge to find out who the fuck all the samples from the various bangers that were coming out were from. Some of my fav. joints, Ghostface's "Cher Chez La Ghoste" and my fellow Indian princess M.I.A.'s "Sunshower" originated here in this band. Other notable samplers were Tribe Called Quest, DeLaSoul, and Doug E. Fresh. I read an article online where Andy Hernandez a member talked about his audition. "When I auditioned to join the group, they didn't even ask me to play any music. They gave me a questionaire to fill out instead." The questionaire asked for information like: What is your political affiliation? What type of women do you go out with? Would you be willing not to wear tight pants? Do you consider yourself straight or a brat? Andy scored 48 out of a possible 100 points---higher than dozens of others that applied and he was invited to join the group.... What a fuckin plan. Id join in a heartbeat. Listening to their certain undeniably piff jumpoffs is so necessary such as: Sunshowers, I'll Play the fool, Cher ChezLaFemme/ C'est Si Bon, Whisperer, and Sour and Sweet. Get your miscellanious random oldies but goodies tracks weight up. Its best to know where the good shit came from, to understand where music is now. I dont think its a bad idea in fact im gonna get busy on this joint right here ;)

This restaurant got closed down yesterday. It was told by a reliable source that PSEG needed to use Amin's entrance in the basement to assist another shop that was having a gas leak, the service worker went into the basement of Amins and discover a butcher chopping meat, that's fine, but he was putting the meat in a crate on the floor (not good) but wait there's more, there were 20 dead rats on the floor. The service worker left the site told his boss and the city inspectors moved in. They noticed that the so called "rats" which were reported were no longer there. The inspectors then came across a padlocked door and instructed one of the cooks to unlock it. This is what they found other workers doing outside behind the restaurant.

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Two students at Southern Illinois University in this St. Louis suburb kidnapped, paddled and burned a young man with freshly baked cookies after a drug deal went bad, prosecutors said.
Madison County prosecutors on Monday charged Rosario James, 23, and Jordan Sallis, 20, each with two counts of aggravated kidnapping and one count of robbery and aggravated battery.
Both were jailed Tuesday on $150,000 apiece. Sheriff’s Capt. Brad Wells said that Friday night, three men went to James’ house to buy marijuana, but two of them grabbed the drugs and fled, leaving the third behind. The suspects held that man, who is in his late teens, and told him he needed to find $400 for the drugs, Wells said.

The suspects beat the man with a wooden paddle, burned his neck and shoulders with cookies immediately after taking them from the oven, shaved off some of his hair and poured urine over him from a soda bottle, Wells said.
“It was just sheer torture,” Wells said. Hours later, Wells said, the victim managed to escape and call police after the suspects drove him to a house in trying to get money for the drugs.
Man not hospitalized. The victim sustained severe bruising but was not hospitalized. Both suspects were arrested Saturday morning. There was no evidence that James or Sallis had been using drugs before or during the alleged torture, Wells said Tuesday.

“Basically they ripped them off of their drugs, and they took exception to that,” Wells said.

There was no record that James or Sallis had obtained an attorney as of Tuesday, a Madison County court clerk said.

Career

He claims to have grossed US$1 million a day selling drugs on 116th Street. Federal judge Sterling Johnson, who was special narcotics prosecutor in New York at the time of Lucas' crimes, called Lucas' operation "one of the most outrageous international dope-smuggling gangs ever, an innovator who got his own connections outside the U.S. and then sold the narcotics himself in the street."

Arrest and release

Frank Lucas was arrested in 1975 in New Jersey and was convicted of both federal and New Jersey state drug violations. In 1976, he was sentenced to 70 years in prison. Once convicted, Lucas provided evidence that led to the convictions of more than 100 drug-related criminals. His sentence was reduced and changed to parole, so that he was released from prison in 1981. In 1984 he was arrested again and convicted for new drug violations and a parole violation. He received a sentence of seven years and was released from prison in 1991. Within the movie American Gangster it was said that at the height of his career Frank Lucas was more powerful than any other criminal organization including the "Mafia" when it came to dope dealing (not overall). He paid off an Italian crime family for their "protection" to sell dope on the streets.
Frank Lucas is now wheelchair bound, as seen in the HBO documentary, The Making of American Gangster. Actor Denzel Washington portrays Frank Lucas in the film American Gangster directed by Ridley Scott, which was released on November 2, 2007. Lucas and his former competitor, Nicky Barnes, sat down with New York magazine's Mark Jacobson recently for a historic conversation between men who have not spoken to each other in 30 years
